Mommy & Me Bellydance Workshop

Historically, bellydance was a skill passed down from mothers to their daughters. Now the Neighbourhood Strays are offering you the chance to learn this dance form with your daughter. The Mommy & Me workshop is an introduction to bellydance for girls ages 5 - 8 and their mothers. It's the perfect opportunity for mom to have fun with her own "gypsy princess"!

The Mommy & Me workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 13th, from 6:00 - 7:00 pm at the School of Dance (163 Water Street). The cost is $15 for a mother/daughter pair and $5 per additional daughter. Click here to register.

Bellydance Workshops with Ainsley

Ainsley first got hooked on Egyptian dance when she learned the basic social dance movements from Egyptian students at her university. Since then, she has studied Egyptian dance for the stage with some of the top instructors in North America, including Morocco, Naida, and Ranya Renée. Known for her subtle and technical performance style, Ainsley has been an instructor for the Yale Bellydance Society for four years and has taught workshops on Egyptian dance to students of all ages.
On Saturday, August 2nd, Ainsley will be offering two workshops:

Egyptian Hips (1:00 - 3:00 pm)
Explore the complex hip articulations of Egyptian style and leave with combinations to use in your own dancing. Topics include: Egyptian hip circles, the up-and-in, Egyptian forward hip 8s, up-front-up-back hip drops, and the Soheir Zaki hip drop walk, plus combinations.

Egyptian Walking Shimmies (3:30 - 5:30 pm)
Take your shimmy on the road with this workshop on Egyptian-style walking shimmies! Topics include: the Ghawazee shimmy, the Cairo shimmy, the Hagallah shimmy, and the half-Hagallah shimmy.
The price for one workshop is $25. The price for both workshops is $40. There are a limited number of spaces available, so register now!

Water and snacks will be available for a nominal fee.

Immediately after the two workshops, the Neighbourhood Strays will be hosting a hafla. There is no fee to attend the hafla; however, we do ask for donations to cover the cost of the space and you can bring food if you would like to. You do not need to attend the workshops to attend the hafla.

Summer Bellydancing Workshops

Our Summer 2008 Bellydance Workshops have begun! Our summer bellydancing workshops will take place at the School of Dance on Wednesdays from 7:00 - 9:00 pm and cost $20 per workshop. We have lots of exciting things planned and workshops are filling up fast, so register now!

The Neighbourhood Strays are a gypsy-style bellydance troupe located in
St. John's, Newfoundland. We regularly perform at events in and around city, and
we offer classes from the beginner level up to advanced. We are also Newfoundland and Labrador's largest supplier of bellydance clothing and accessories.
