Melanie
My name is Melanie, and I'm one of the newer members of the Neighbourhood Strays.
I've spent most of my life in St. John's, Newfoundland. I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree here at MUN, and currently live and work in downtown St. John's.
I have never had any formal dance instruction, but have always been intrigued by bellydancing, and middle eastern music in particular. So when I read an ad for Andrea's beginners bellydancing class, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. That was the summer of 2004 and I have been hooked ever since.
I used to leave beginners and intermediate classes with such a feeling of confidence and motivation. It has always amazed me how bellydancing can change your body image in such a positive way. This feeling that started in bellydancing class now follows me wherever I go.
Becoming a part of the Strays and performing has been a wonderful experience. I never imagined myself dancing in front of roomfuls of strangers, but I love it and hope to do so for as long as I'm able to! Dressing up in costume is a big part of the fun as well.
Andrea's instruction has been excellent and her knowledge and skill is undeniable. I would recommend her classes to anyone looking to have fun, meet some great people, and maybe get a little exercise as well!
